Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting the vehicle. This document outlines important terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Car Hire in Fife, drivers must be at least 21 years of age, although age restrictions may vary depending on the vehicle type. Drivers under 25 may incur additional fees. A valid driving licence that corresponds with the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Valid payment details and a security deposit are also necessary. Any further requirements will be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Fife location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely by trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties. It is expected that you return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, accounting for standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated, and charges may apply. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as at the start of your rental; otherwise, refueling charges will be incurred. Late returns may attract additional fees, so please inform us promptly if you anticipate a delay. You will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during your rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Policies
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You will find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Options for additional insurance may be available to limit your financial liability. It's advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain accountable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless additional insurance is in place. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms is your responsibility, regardless of any existing insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice period provided. Please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement for specific information. Charges may apply for late cancellations or no-shows.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited vehicle uses:
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities or purposes. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or any other dangerous endeavors is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials, sub-letting to others, or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden, as is exceeding passenger and weight limits. Additionally, operating the vehicle outside designated geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under Scottish law, Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business that may arise from your use of our services. Our liability for any claims will not exceed the total amount you paid for your rental in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Scottish courts.
Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon being posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
