Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle pickup. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will be authoritative.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To hire a vehicle, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions can vary depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. You need a valid driving license suitable for the vehicle category, held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Any additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be completed via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Fife office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment along with a security deposit is generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are quoted in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage right away. A vehicle condition report will be created and signed by both parties. When returning the vehicle, it should be in the same state as when collected, aside from normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated, and charges may apply. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will be incurred if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be liable for any parking tickets, traffic violations, or other charges accrued during the rental period, along with an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- Basic third-party insurance is included with every vehicle rental. You will find full coverage information and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial exposure. It is beneficial to review these thoroughly. You remain liable for damage or loss up to the insurance excess unless further coverage is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms will be your responsibility, regardless of any insurance coverage in place.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional fees.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any actions that may pose a risk. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes, and you must adhere to passenger and weight limits. Driving outside the designated geographical areas without proper permission is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by Scottish law, Car Hire is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the past 12 months. This does not affect our liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Scottish courts.
Terms Modifications
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
